Why is Laura Helmer running for Minnesota State Senate? 

When asked why she wants to be a member of the State Legislature, Laura responded, "Four years ago I said, “I entered this race because I believe change must be made in Minnesota politics.  We need to restore Minnesota to the progressive leader it once was.”  Unfortunately, the same statement is still true today and it is still the reason why I enter this race in 2010.  Our state’s economic and employment situations have worsened dramatically, we still do not have quality affordable healthcare for all, and we are more politically divided than ever.

Minnesota faces serious problems that do not have simple solutions.  We need forward-thinking leaders who can work effectively with all legislators by focusing on the issues that unite us and finding common ground.  Only by leaving partisan attack politics and outdated demagoguery behind can we develop responsible financial policies that make our state and its economy stronger.  I pledge to be that type of leader.
